The Phoenix Suns and 15-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant are expected to mutually find a trade suitor in the coming days or weeks.
As Durant’s trade saga continues to unfold, the Miami Heat have remained a top trade destination for the 36-year-old.
The Heat and team president Pat Riley, as a result, will continue to pursue a blockbuster deal to acquire the future Hall of Fame forward and build an intriguing Big 3 with Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo.
Many in the NBA sphere believe that the Heat could be the perfect franchise for Durant, including FOX Sports’ NBA analyst Ric Bucher, who recently listed a plethora of reasons why Miami should be his preferred destination during an appearance on The Facility.
“It has to be the Miami Heat because the culture and the leadership are already set,” Bucher shared Monday.
With Riley’s track record in mind and the franchise’s history of winning, Bucher explained that Miami is offering everything Durant could be seeking this offseason while also drawing parallels to Durant’s dominant Golden State Warriors teams.
“Guys go to the Miami Heat to rehab their reputations and their images.”
“You have all of the pieces in Miami that most closely resembles what he walked into with Golden State. Yes, Golden State was a winner, but the culture was already set. You had a great coach, you had a reputation for winning championships.”
While the 2025-26 iteration of the Heat will certainly be a far cry from the Warriors’ historic teams of the late 2010s, it’s easy to understand why Bucher makes the comparison.
The Heat’s all-time great head coach Erik Spoelstra has helped to develop the Heat’s famed “Heat Culture” ideology built on hustle, grit and a never-say-die attitude.
Riley’s presence as an executive also had a massive impact on the franchise’s ability to sign LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwyane Wade with the Heat in the summer of 2010, leading to the organization’s second and third title wins.
Following a hypothetical trade, Durant would be granted the opportunity to lead a talented young core as the Heat’s main scoring option.
On top of that, a potential title win as the leading man on the Heat could change the complexion of his legacy and how his career will be viewed long after he decides to hang up the sneakers.
