NBA Insider: Thunder Projected to Select South Carolina Forward in 2025 NBA Draft

The rich meaning the Oklahoma City Thunder are expected to get richer in the NBA Draft.

Already brimming with young talent, draft capital, and one of the league’s deepest war chests of future picks, the Oklahoma City Thunder are once again poised to strike gold in the 2025 NBA Draft. Projected to hold a mid-first-round pick, the Thunder are being linked to Collin Murray-Boyles, a rising star forward out of South Carolina.

Murray-Boyles, a versatile and athletic 6’6½” forward, has drawn rave reviews for his two-way impact and basketball IQ. He averaged 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game in his sophomore season, establishing himself as a defensive anchor and offensive playmaker. While concerns linger about his undersized frame and inconsistent shooting from deep, his upside as a high-motor, high-IQ forward makes him a tailor-made fit for OKC’s player development model.

The Thunder, led by All-NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and a young core with playoff experience, don’t need a franchise-altering star they need glue guys with upside. Murray-Boyles fits that profile perfectly.

With 15 future first-round picks still at their disposal and one of the league’s most respected front offices in Sam Presti, Oklahoma City is in a rare position: building toward title contention without compromising their future.

If the Thunder do indeed land Murray-Boyles or a similarly skilled, high-upside forward in the 2025 draft, they’ll not only add depth and defense they’ll continue to solidify their status as the NBA’s most promising young powerhouse.

The rich are getting richer, and in Oklahoma City, the foundation for sustained excellence is being laid one smart draft pick at a time.
