Tennessee Takes Big Hit as 3-Star WR Tyran Evans Decommits from 2026 Class
The University of Tennessee’s 2026 recruiting class took a significant blow on Wednesday night as
3-star wide receiver Tyran Evans officially announced his decommitment from the Volunteers.
A standout from William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, Evans shared the news on his personal social media accounts, issuing a heartfelt statement that emphasized reflection and appreciation for the Tennessee coaching staff.
“After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee,” Evans wrote.
“Thank you to Coach Heupel, Coach Pope, Coach Halzle, and the entire Vols staff for everything you’ve done for me and my family. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity and all the love shown throughout the process. With that said, I am reopening my recruitment and looking forward to what the future holds.”

Evans, listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, originally committed to Tennessee in January 2025, choosing the Vols over offers from NC State, Kentucky, Miami, South Florida, and others. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Evans is a 3-star prospect, ranked No. 81 nationally among wide receivers and No. 501 overall in the 2026 class.
His decision to decommit does not come entirely as a surprise, as Evans had recently taken unofficial and official visits to other programs most notably Kentucky, NC State, and Miami indicating that his recruitment remained fluid.
🟠 Impact on Tennessee
Tennessee now drops to nine verbal commitments in the 2026 class.
With Evans back on the open market, other schools are expected to intensify their pursuit.
The Vols may shift their focus to other wide receiver targets on their board to fill the gap.
Evans’s decommitment is a reminder of how quickly recruiting landscapes can change especially in early cycles where verbal commitments often come before players’ junior seasons. He remains one of the more intriguing wideout prospects in the Southeast and will no doubt be a coveted addition to several Power 5 programs moving forward.
Stay tuned for updates on where Evans might land next and how Tennessee adjusts its recruiting efforts in response.
