REPORT: One Wrexham player count himself very unlucky after Phil Parkinson’s latest transfer move

Danny Ward Seals Emotional Homecoming with Wrexham

Wales international goalkeeper Danny Ward has returned to his boyhood club Wrexham AFC, signing a two-year contract on Tuesday in a move that has thrilled fans and brought his career full circle.

Ward, born and raised in Wrexham, began his football journey in the club’s youth academy before making a high-profile move to Liverpool in 2012. After spells at Huddersfield Town and Aberdeen, and most recently Leicester City, Ward now returns to where it all started the STōK Cae Ras.

Released by Leicester at the end of his contract this summer, Ward was available on a free transfer. Wrexham acted swiftly to bring the 31-year-old back home as they continue to bolster their squad following back-to-back promotions under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Ward’s return marks a sentimental and strategic signing. He brings Premier League and international experience, having earned over 30 caps for Wales and appearing at major tournaments including Euro 2016 and Euro 2020.

Speaking on the move, Ward said:

“Wrexham is in my blood. I’ve always dreamed of coming back here, and to do so now, at this point in my career, is incredibly special. I can’t wait to play in front of our fans at the Racecourse Ground.”

His signing also addresses a key position for Wrexham as they prepare for their campaign in League One, following a strong finish in League Two.

With a mix of nostalgia and ambition, Danny Ward’s return symbolizes more than just a player signing—it’s a homecoming written in the stars.
