Fabrizio Romano Provides Update on Eberechi Eze’s Potential Move to Tottenham After New Talks

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are making a determined push to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze before the summer transfer window closes. The North London club are reportedly prepared to put £60 million on the table to secure the midfielder’s services, with negotiations between the two clubs continuing this week.

According to Romano, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy held fresh discussions with Crystal Palace counterpart Steve Parish on Monday. Tottenham are believed to have submitted a formal proposal worth £55 million guaranteed, with a further £5 million included as performance-related add-ons, bringing the overall package to £60 million. This figure mirrors the type of investment Tottenham made earlier this summer in landing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.

Eze himself is said to be pushing for the move. The 27-year-old informed Palace of his desire to join Spurs last week, making his intentions clear as the transfer deadline approaches. Despite the speculation, he was still included in Palace’s starting XI for their Premier League opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, which ended in a 0-0 draw. His involvement highlighted his professionalism, even while uncertainty lingers over his future.

Since arriving at Selhurst Park from Queens Park Rangers in 2020, Eze has developed into one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking midfielders. Over four seasons, he has made 169 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 40 goals and providing 28 assists. Last campaign, he played a starring role as Palace claimed their first major piece of silverware, lifting the FA Cup at Wembley. He also featured prominently in the club’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool earlier this month, further underlining his value to the team.

For Tottenham, the urgency behind the pursuit of Eze is tied to the club’s current injury concerns and attacking shortages. The squad suffered a major blow when captain James Maddison tore his ACL during a pre-season friendly, sidelining him for at least six to seven months. To add to their worries, key players including Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma, Radu Dragusin, and Dejan Kulusevski were unavailable for the Chelsea clash, with Kulusevski still working his way back from a serious knee injury sustained in May.

Compounding matters, Spurs also lost long-serving forward and former captain Son Heung-min, who departed for Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC earlier in the summer. That exit has left a void in Tottenham’s attack, one the club views Eze as well-suited to fill. Known for his creativity, technical ability, and eye for goal, the midfielder would provide Ange Postecoglou’s side with a much-needed injection of flair and versatility in the final third.

With the September 1 deadline looming, Tottenham are intensifying efforts to strike a deal. While Palace remain reluctant to lose one of their most important players, Spurs hope their £60 million bid will prove sufficient to get the transfer across the line. The coming days will determine whether Eze makes the high-profile switch to North London or remains the centerpiece of Crystal Palace’s project for another season.
