Mariners Power Hitter Projected to Leave as Pirates Continue Roster Revamp
The Seattle Mariners made several notable moves at last season’s trade deadline, bringing in Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez to strengthen their roster. While Naylor quickly secured his future in Seattle with a new contract early in the offseason, indications suggest Suárez may be on his way out, with a move to another team appearing increasingly likely in the near future.
Suárez’s next destination remains difficult to pin down, largely because his skill set makes him an attractive option for a wide range of teams. As a proven power bat, he fits the needs of several clubs looking for short-term offensive help, especially since he is expected to command only a brief contract. According to Bleacher Report analyst Joel Reuter, one team to watch closely is the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Reuter notes that Pittsburgh has already taken meaningful steps to reshape its offense. The Pirates acquired Brandon Lowe and Jake Mangum via trade and signed Ryan O’Hearn to a two-year, $29 million deal, signaling a clear effort to upgrade a lineup that struggled in recent seasons. Despite those additions, the offense still has room to grow before reaching above-average status.

While there is no obvious positional opening for Suárez at the moment, his free-agent market is partially influenced by the decision of Alex Bregman. Even so, Reuter believes Suárez could be an ideal short-term signing for the Pirates, similar to the deal given to O’Hearn. Such a move would also allow Jared Triolo to shift into a utility infield role, providing the team with added flexibility.
Pittsburgh has already surprised many around the league with its offseason activity, and adding Suárez would represent another bold step. His presence in the heart of the lineup could significantly boost the Pirates’ run production and overall offensive threat. If Suárez is open to a one- or two-year contract, the Pirates may emerge as the strongest contender to secure his services as they continue their aggressive roster makeover.
