ESPN REPORT: Seattle Mariners Bring Back Former Fan-Favorite Star Following Season-Ending Injury to Key Player

The Seattle Mariners made a couple of roster moves on Friday, activating Rob Refsnyder from the paternity list while placing outfielder Patrick Wisdom on the 10-day injured list. Refsnyder, 35, had been away from the team since Tuesday, which led to Wisdom being called up from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the roster spot.

During his brief stint with the Mariners, Wisdom appeared in just one game. In that appearance, he struck out in his lone at-bat during Seattle’s 4-1 loss to the San Diego Padres. Prior to his promotion, the 34-year-old had been on an impressive run in the minors, leading all minor league players with nine home runs across just 15 games.

Meanwhile, there was positive news on the pitching front. Right-hander Bryce Miller, who began the season on the injured list due to a left oblique strain, returned to T-Mobile Park for the first time this year. He is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday as he works his way back to full health.

According to general manager Justin Hollander, Miller is expected to throw around two innings or approximately 30 pitches in his rehab outing, depending on how things go. Miller has dealt with multiple injuries over the past year, including stints on the injured list last season due to right elbow inflammation. Those issues occurred in mid-May and again from June into August, marking a frustrating stretch for the pitcher.

Miller reflected on the challenges, noting that injuries had never really been a problem for him earlier in his career. From high school through college and even into the early stages of his professional journey, he remained healthy. However, that changed last year, as he found himself repeatedly sidelined.

In the 2025 season, the 27-year-old posted a 4-6 record with a 5.68 ERA over 18 starts. Over the course of his three-year major league career, he holds a 24-21 record with a 4.01 ERA in 74 starts.

While Miller works his way back, Emerson Hancock has stepped into the rotation and performed well. The 26-year-old right-hander is off to a strong start this season, going 2-1 with an impressive 2.27 ERA across four outings. Last year, Hancock made a career-high 16 starts, finishing with a 4-5 record and a 4.90 ERA.

Looking ahead, the Mariners could face a crowded starting rotation once Miller returns, which may still be a few weeks away. Established pitchers like George Kirby, Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, and 2025 All-Star Bryan Woo are already firmly in place. Hollander acknowledged the potential challenge but indicated that no decisions have been made yet, saying the team will address the situation when the time comes.
