DETROIT — Texas Rangers right fielder Brandon Nimmo was forced to leave Friday night’s tight 5–4 victory after experiencing right hamstring tightness, marking the second straight game in which the issue has affected him.
Nimmo had been productive early in the contest, reaching base with a walk and two singles and scoring twice in the first four innings. However, after his second hit, he began showing visible discomfort and was ultimately removed from the game as a precaution.

The injury concern is particularly notable because Nimmo had also exited the previous game on Wednesday in Arlington with the same hamstring issue. Despite that setback, he was still cleared to return to the lineup on Friday and did not miss a start, showing his usual willingness to play through pain.
Texas manager Skip Schumaker explained the situation after the game, noting that Nimmo began feeling the tightness during his final at-bat. Schumaker observed him reacting physically on the field before checking in directly with the outfielder.
“He felt it a little bit in the last at-bat,” Schumaker said. “I saw him shaking his leg, and so I ran out there and just kind of asked what the deal was.”
According to Schumaker, Nimmo insisted that he was still able to continue playing, a response that didn’t surprise the coaching staff given his competitive nature. However, the manager made the decision to remove him from the game as a precaution, especially considering the cold and damp conditions in Detroit, where temperatures were around 48 degrees with light drizzle.
“He said, ‘I can play.’ Like, shocker. He would,” Schumaker added. “But I didn’t feel it was worth it, with the weather how it was. I didn’t want to push him. He said he’s OK, but I haven’t seen him postgame yet.”
After Nimmo’s exit, Ezequiel Duran shifted into right field as his replacement. Duran made a significant impact defensively later in the game, delivering a standout play in the seventh inning when he made a diving catch near the warning track to rob Kerry Carpenter of extra bases.
Josh Smith also entered the game, first coming in as a pinch-runner for Nimmo before later taking over at second base as part of the defensive reshuffling.
While the Rangers were able to secure the win despite the lineup adjustments, Nimmo’s recurring hamstring tightness raises concern about his availability moving forward. The team is expected to monitor his condition closely as they assess whether rest or further evaluation will be needed to prevent the issue from worsening.
