Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class continues to gain momentum as head coach Alex Golesh and his staff secure another key offensive piece for the future.
five-star quarterback Gary Chatman Jr., a promising dual-threat signal-caller from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, announced his commitment to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, giving the program another important building block in its long-term quarterback plans.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound prospect was previously committed to Wake Forest, but recently reopened his recruitment before ultimately choosing Auburn after a strong push from the Tigers.
Chatman explained that his decision was heavily influenced by his growing connection with the Auburn coaching staff and his experience during a second visit to campus. According to him, that trip made a lasting impression and ultimately sealed his commitment.
“When I went back up there for my second visit, I just loved everything about it,” Chatman said. “I loved the coaches and the environment. That’s what led to my decision. I knew when I left that visit that I was going to commit to Auburn.”
For Auburn, this commitment represents another step forward in rebuilding and strengthening its 2027 recruiting class under Golesh, who has quickly prioritized adding athletic and versatile playmakers to the roster. The staff’s ability to pull a quarterback out of Georgia also highlights its recruiting reach in one of the most competitive talent-rich states in the country.
During his junior season at Brookwood High School, Chatman showed why Auburn and other programs were interested in his potential. In 10 games as a first-year starter, he passed for 1,494 yards and 12 touchdowns while throwing only four interceptions. He also made an impact on the ground, rushing for 418 yards and five additional touchdowns, helping guide his team to the second round of the Georgia AAAAAA playoffs.
Chatman is widely regarded as a dual-threat quarterback with strong mobility and improving passing ability. His ability to extend plays and escape pressure stands out, along with his comfort throwing on the run. He is also effective in run-pass option schemes, where his quick decision-making and speed allow him to stress defenses on the edge.
A major factor in his commitment was his relationship with Golesh and the coaching staff. Chatman emphasized that the energy, vision, and leadership presented by the Auburn head coach played a significant role in his decision.
“I asked the staff why they came to Auburn, and they all had positive things to say about Coach Golesh,” Chatman said. “When I sat down with him, I knew that’s a guy I’d love to play for. He is smart, he has energy, and he wants to win. I like what I know about Coach Golesh.”
Despite still being early in the recruiting cycle for the 2027 class, Chatman made it clear that his decision is final. He also expressed appreciation for Wake Forest and its coaching staff, but said Auburn ultimately felt like the right long-term fit both on and off the field.
“The coaches, the environment, and how close it is to home pushed Auburn to the top for me,” he said. “It was really tough to call Wake Forest, and I appreciate those coaches a lot, but I had to make the best decision for my future. With this commitment, I’m shutting it down. I am not visiting anywhere else. I am all Auburn.”
