Good News: 5-Star Top International prospect Set To Join Kentucky Wildcats Basketball After Mark Pope Contact

The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball continue working to finalize their roster for the 2026-27 season, and another potential target has now emerged on the recruiting radar. With three scholarship spots still available, head coach Mark Pope and his staff remain active in evaluating multiple players who could strengthen the team heading into next season.

Much of the recent attention surrounding Kentucky basketball has focused on major recruiting storylines, including the decision of highly regarded prospect Malachi Moreno and the possibility of pursuing Milan Momcilovic. However, the Wildcats are clearly expanding their search and exploring additional options, particularly in the backcourt.

A new international name officially entered the conversation this week. According to a report from Jacob Polacheck of KSR, Kentucky has reached out to the representation of Savo Drezgic, who currently plays for Mega Superbet overseas.

Drezgic is not entirely unfamiliar with American college basketball. The talented guard spent the 2024-25 season with the Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball before eventually continuing his development professionally with Mega Superbet. After showing significant improvement overseas, he is now reportedly interested in returning to the college ranks, where he could quickly become an attractive option for several high-level programs.

While it remains unclear just how aggressively Kentucky plans to pursue Drezgic, the reported contact signals that the Wildcats are seriously searching for another capable ball-handler and playmaker. Adding an experienced guard appears to be one of the staff’s priorities as they continue shaping the roster around Pope’s vision for the upcoming season.

During his lone season at Georgia, Drezgic saw limited playing time and was unable to fully establish himself in the rotation. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in only 6.8 minutes per game. Though his role was relatively small, the experience gave him exposure to SEC competition and helped him adjust to the physical style of American college basketball.

Since then, however, his game appears to have taken a major step forward. Playing for Mega Superbet this past season, Drezgic delivered impressive numbers across the board. He averaged 16.5 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the field. From beyond the arc, he knocked down 35.7 percent of his three-point attempts while averaging more than six shots from deep per game.

In addition to his scoring ability, Drezgic also contributed 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per contest, showcasing his versatility as a guard who can impact games in multiple ways. Those all-around numbers likely explain why several college programs are expected to show interest in him during the recruiting process.

For Kentucky, adding a player with SEC experience and international development could provide valuable depth and maturity to the roster. Pope and his staff continue evaluating all available options as they attempt to complete the team before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

For now, Wildcats fans will have to wait and see whether Kentucky’s early contact with Drezgic develops into a more serious recruiting pursuit in the weeks ahead.
