The Auburn Tigers added another important piece to its future recruiting class after securing a commitment from talented linebacker Kareem Palmer during the program’s annual Big Cat Weekend event. The promising defender announced his decision shortly after visiting campus, giving Auburn a major recruiting victory over several top programs, including Texas A&M Aggies.

Palmer, a standout linebacker from Toombs County High School, was one of approximately 30 recruits who attended Auburn’s highly anticipated recruiting weekend. The visit clearly left a strong impression on the Georgia native, who informed the coaching staff of his commitment before making the news public on Sunday.
Standing around 6-foot-2 and weighing between 210 and 215 pounds, Palmer has steadily built a reputation as one of the more promising linebackers in the 2027 recruiting cycle. According to recruiting services, he is ranked among the nation’s top linebacker prospects and is also considered one of the best players in the state of Georgia. Various scouting outlets have placed him anywhere from the No. 32 to No. 41 linebacker nationally, while state rankings also place him among Georgia’s top overall talents.
Palmer’s rise has been fueled by his strong production on the field over the past two seasons. The athletic defender has totaled 112 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, three sacks, and three forced fumbles during that span. His junior campaign was especially impressive, as he recorded 79 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses and make plays all over the field.
His performances attracted significant attention from college programs across the country. Palmer reportedly collected close to 25 scholarship offers throughout his recruitment process, but Auburn consistently remained one of his top choices after extending an offer back in December. The Tigers worked hard to strengthen their relationship with him, and Big Cat Weekend marked his fifth visit to campus.
Auburn’s coaching staff played a key role in eventually winning the recruiting battle. Defensive coordinator DJ Durkin built a strong connection with Palmer throughout the process, while outside linebackers coach Brad Wilson and head coach Alex Golesh also remained heavily involved in his recruitment. Palmer appreciated the consistency and honesty shown by the Tigers’ staff, which helped Auburn separate itself from other programs pursuing him.
With Palmer now committed, Auburn adds its first linebacker to the 2027 recruiting class and strengthens the defensive side of the group. He joins defensive lineman Donivan Moore as the second defensive commitment in the class.
The Tigers’ 2027 recruiting class has now grown to seven total commitments and features talent at several key positions, including quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. Auburn has also continued to recruit heavily in Georgia, with four current commitments coming from the state, the highest total from any area represented in the class. The group is currently ranked near the top 35 nationally and continues to gain momentum as Auburn looks to build a strong foundation for the future.
