Breaking: New York Mets Officially Announced The Signing of $75M Rangers Star Pitcher

The New York Mets are heading into the 2026 season as one of the most intriguing teams in Major League Baseball. After a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw them miss the playoffs, the organization is determined to bounce back and reestablish itself as a serious contender.

In response to last season’s struggles, the Mets were extremely active during the offseason. They made several high-profile additions to strengthen their roster, including star infielder Bo Bichette and talented pitcher Freddy Peralta. The team also brought in notable players such as Luis Robert Jr., Marcus Semien, Devin Williams, Jorge Polanco, and Luke Weaver. With these additions, expectations are now much higher, and the Mets are clearly aiming to compete at a top level.

Despite these improvements, one area still stands out as a potential weakness: the starting rotation. While the team has made significant upgrades, there is still a clear need for another elite starting pitcher who can provide consistency and dominance. Because of this, speculation has begun to grow about the Mets possibly making another major move.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, one bold prediction for the 2026 season is that the Mets will pursue a trade for Texas Rangers star pitcher Nathan Eovaldi at the trade deadline. Bowden suggests that with Eovaldi having one and a half years remaining on his current contract, the Rangers could consider moving him, making him an appealing target for New York.

Eovaldi would be a strong fit for the Mets, as he has proven himself to be one of the most reliable and effective pitchers in the league. During the 2025 season, he delivered an outstanding performance for the Rangers. In 22 appearances, the right-hander recorded an impressive 11-3 win-loss record, along with a remarkable 1.73 earned run average (ERA) and 129 strikeouts. His ability to consistently perform at a high level makes him a valuable addition for any team looking to strengthen its rotation.

Beyond his performance, another factor that makes Eovaldi attractive is his contract situation. He is currently in the second year of a three-year deal worth $75 million, meaning any team that acquires him would not be getting just a short-term rental. Instead, he would remain under contract through the 2027 season, providing stability and long-term value.

However, if the Mets decide to pursue Eovaldi, they are unlikely to be the only team interested. Given his track record and experience, multiple contenders are expected to consider making a move for him. Eovaldi is not only a two-time All-Star but also a two-time World Series champion, making him highly desirable for teams with championship ambitions.

Even with potential competition, the Mets are in a strong position to make a deal. With their current roster and clear intent to compete, adding a pitcher of Eovaldi’s caliber could significantly boost their chances of success. If New York wants to take the next step and become a true contender in 2026, targeting a proven star like Eovaldi could be a crucial move.
