Sunderland Transfer Update: Striker Arrival Expected as Two Players Face Possible Exits
Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris has once again suggested that the club could bring in another striker before the transfer window closes, while expressing confidence that the Black Cats will achieve their recruitment objectives before Tuesday’s deadline.
Sunderland have made strengthening their attacking options one of their priorities during the final days of the transfer window. Their immediate focus appears to be on adding a wide attacker, with the club holding discussions with Marseille regarding Igor Paixão. Sunderland have also reportedly made an ambitious approach to bring in Jack Grealish on loan.
However, the need for additional firepower has become increasingly important following the departure of Eliezer Mayenda. Sunderland now have fewer options in the central striker position, prompting questions about whether Le Bris believes another centre-forward should be added.
The Sunderland boss acknowledged that another striker could be beneficial. He pointed out that Mayenda had been part of the forward options last season and indicated that having additional depth in that position would be useful. However, he stopped short of confirming a specific target, suggesting that the club will assess the situation as the deadline approaches.
While new arrivals remain a priority, Sunderland could also see players leave before the window shuts.
One player whose future could be decided soon is Jocelin Ta Bi. Le Bris has admitted that the young winger could potentially leave the club temporarily on loan if Sunderland manage to sign another attacking player. West Ham United and Burnley have previously been linked with an interest in the player.
The manager had previously indicated that Ta Bi would remain with Sunderland this season. However, the possibility of limited first-team opportunities could change that decision. Le Bris believes regular playing time will be particularly important for the youngster’s development.
He praised Ta Bi’s physical qualities and potential, comparing his profile to new arrival Jules Ahoka. According to Le Bris, Ta Bi has many of the attributes required for his position but still needs more experience and development. While daily training alongside strong players can help him improve, the manager acknowledged that playing regularly elsewhere could also accelerate his progress.
Another player who could depart is midfielder Alan Browne. The experienced 31-year-old has reportedly attracted attention from several Championship clubs, with Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End among those believed to be interested. Browne spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and could now be heading toward another move.
Le Bris described Browne as an excellent professional and a strong teammate, while emphasizing that the club must find the right career path for every player. His reduced opportunities following the arrival of Ahoka could make a departure increasingly likely.
Sunderland have already strengthened their squad with Thomas Meunier, Dayann Methalie and Ahoka, while also securing new long-term contracts for several important players.
Le Bris stressed that retaining the club’s core squad was a major priority before adding new recruits. With the transfer window still open, Sunderland remain active behind the scenes as they look to complete further business.
The manager said he has confidence in the club’s recruitment team and believes everyone is working toward the same objectives. With the deadline approaching, Sunderland supporters could still have more transfer news to look forward to.
