The Philadelphia Phillies have started to find their rhythm again after a rough opening stretch to the season, and their recent improvement has sparked renewed optimism around the club. After stumbling out of the gate with a 9–19 record, the team has rebounded strongly and is now closing in on the .500 mark. Their turnaround has been one of the more impressive runs in baseball recently, and it has helped restore confidence in a roster that was widely expected to compete at a high level.
A major turning point for the franchise came after a managerial change, as the organization moved on from Rob Thomson. Since that shift, the Phillies have played some of their best baseball of the season, showing improved consistency and competitiveness across the board. The surge has been enough to bring them back into relevance in the standings, even though there is still ground to cover before they are fully back on track.
One of the key strengths of the team continues to be its starting pitching. Led by ace Zack Wheeler and a solid supporting cast, the rotation has remained dependable despite occasional inconsistencies. When healthy and in form, the pitching staff has given Philadelphia a chance to win most nights, keeping them competitive even when the offense has been uneven.
Offensively, the Phillies have shown signs of improvement, but questions still remain. The lineup has had stretches of productivity, yet certain positions continue to be areas of concern. One of the biggest issues has been the performance at third base, where Alec Bohm has struggled to deliver consistent production throughout the year. Although Bohm recently delivered his strongest performance of the season against the Colorado Rockies, his overall numbers remain below expectations. That single breakout game was encouraging, but it will take a sustained hot streak to change the narrative around his season.
Given those concerns, it is not surprising that Philadelphia could look externally for help at third base. The organization has high expectations and may not feel comfortable relying solely on internal improvement at that position. As a result, trade discussions and potential upgrades have become a logical talking point as the season progresses.
One name that stands out as a potential solution is Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers. Jung has been performing at a high level this season and has reestablished himself as a strong offensive presence. So far, he is hitting .322 with a .372 on-base percentage and a .510 slugging percentage, along with five home runs and 20 RBIs. Those numbers reflect both consistency and power, qualities the Phillies could use in the middle of their lineup.
Jung was originally viewed as a breakout star after his 2023 season with Texas, but he experienced regression during the 2024 and 2025 campaigns along with much of the roster. However, his 2026 performance suggests he has regained his form and could be entering a new peak phase of his career.
Beyond his immediate production, Jung also offers long-term value. He would not only address Philadelphia’s current need at third base but could also stabilize the position for years to come. With Bohm approaching free agency after the season and eligibility for arbitration still in place for Jung, he represents both a present upgrade and a future solution for a team aiming to stay competitive deep into the next few seasons.
