Report: Robert Deziel Jr. Leaves Bayern Munich to Join Polish Giants Legia Warsaw

American-Italian defender Robert Deziel Jr. is reportedly set to continue his rapidly developing football journey after agreeing to leave Bayern Munich and join Polish powerhouse Legia Warsaw.

The 20-year-old centre-back has completed a move to Legia after reaching a full agreement with the Polish club. According to football journalist Florian Plettenberg, Deziel has successfully completed his medical and is expected to sign a contract that will keep him at Legia Warsaw until 2030.

The transfer is reportedly a free move from Bayern Munich II, with Legia sporting director Fredi Bobic said to have played an important role in convincing the young defender to make the switch following a series of discussions.

Deziel Continues European Football Journey

Deziel Jr.’s career so far has been defined by his willingness to embrace new challenges and experience football in different countries.

Born into an American-Italian background, the defender moved to Madrid with his family when he was just nine years old. His talent quickly earned him an opportunity at the prestigious Real Madrid academy, where he spent two years developing alongside some of Europe’s most promising young players.

However, his time in Madrid eventually came to an end, forcing Deziel to search for another opportunity. Rather than allowing the setback to affect his ambitions, he moved to Vigo and continued his development with Celta Vigo’s youth system.

At the age of 15, Deziel decided that Germany represented the ideal destination for the next stage of his development. After impressing during a trial, he earned an opportunity to join Bayern Munich and began working his way through the club’s highly regarded youth structure.

Breakthrough Came After Injury Crisis

The centre-back eventually progressed to Bayern’s Under-19 setup before being sent on a two-year loan to Berlin-based VSG Altglienicke, who were competing in Germany’s fourth tier.

His spell in Berlin was affected by injuries, however, and he struggled to establish himself consistently. By the time he returned to Bayern in 2025, his future at the club appeared uncertain.

His fortunes changed dramatically after Bayern’s reserve team suffered a defensive injury crisis. Injuries to several U-23 centre-backs created an unexpected opportunity for Deziel, who was called upon to strengthen the team.

He seized the opportunity impressively.

Deziel quickly established himself as a regular starter and became one of the surprise performers of the season. His performances demonstrated his defensive ability, composure and physical presence, while he also contributed four goals during the campaign.

Legia Warsaw Move Offers New Opportunity

Although Deziel’s emergence ultimately did not lead to a long-term future with Bayern Munich, his performances appear to have significantly improved his prospects elsewhere.

A move to Legia Warsaw represents another important chapter in a career that has already taken the young defender across several European countries.

Legia are one of Poland’s biggest and most successful clubs, and Deziel will now have the opportunity to continue his development at a club competing at a higher level.

With a contract reportedly running until 2030, the Polish giants appear ready to place significant faith in the young centre-back.

For Deziel, the transfer represents another chance to prove himself, and his remarkable journey from Madrid to Vigo, Munich and now Warsaw shows that he has consistently embraced every challenge placed in front of him.
