As the Tigers select a versatile DB/ATH over Power 4 colleges, Charles Bass pledges to Missouri.
Charles Bass, a gifted and important recruit from the St. Louis region, joins Missouri. High-major programs rejected the 6-foot-1, 190-pound player in favor of becoming a Tiger.
Charles Bass, a defensive back and athlete from East St. Louis, Illinois, made his commitment to Missouri known live on 247Sports Unfiltered on Wednesday. In a Missouri class that is in the national top 15 of the recruiting rankings and vying for a spot in the top 10, Bass is the 17th commitment.
Charles Bass’s remarks regarding Missouri
Although Bass (6’1 and 190 pounds) visited Missouri on official business in June, his bond with the state dates back far further. The East St. Louis staff is another group with whom the Tigers have a close relationship.
Eli Drinkwitz, the head coach, visited the school in January.
“Just the coaching staff,” Bass stated when he clarified his dedication. “I spoke with Coach Drink quite a bit. I think their approach to developing guys is good. During my official visit, I observed practice and noted that the boys appeared to be enjoying themselves and growing as individuals.”
Another factor was the Tigers, who had just won the Cotton Bowl and finished with an 11-2 record.
“One factor is the program’s growth,” Bass stated. “Spots for the coaches are more assured. I’m attempting to advance, and these guys are growing. I’m trying to put myself in their position because they only selected two DBs this year in the draft.”
Bass responded, “A little of both, but the main role they got me listed at is safety.” in reference to corner or safety.
Bass summed up an early-in his high school career recruitment by saying, “It was crazy.” I work very hard, put in a lot of hours, and am very dedicated. The trip was quite lengthy.”
OTHERS: WHO WAS IN THE MIX?
Bass received 26 bids. The best plays for him came towards the close of his recruitment from Illinois and Arkansas. Texas A&M, LSU, and Kansas State were some of the more recent offers he accepted during his official visit.
CHARLES BASS IS RANKED AS A RECRUIT HERE
Bass has an 88 rating and is a higher-end three-star at 247Sports. He is ranked No. 13 rising senior in Illinois and No. 41 overall.
In the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, he ranks as a four-star athlete, 13th overall, and 7th in Illinois.
CHARLES BASS’S CONNECTION WITH MISSOURI
Bass is coming in as a defensive back even though he is categorized as an athlete. Both safety Dyllon Williams and cornerback Mark Manfred have committed to them. All of them are large, lengthy, and meet Missouri’s requirements for a secondary.
Additionally, in 2024, they signed a solid class of defensive backs.
Nevertheless, Bass is long, versatile, and a diligent worker. These qualities will provide him a chance to compete early in his career.
OUR PERSPECTIVES OF CHARLES BASS
A lengthier potential with good footwork and direction changing skills is Bass. He has a little bit of corner play ability. However, his man-to-man experience will come in handy once he enters the game as a safety because it will enable him to play both in the deep section of the back end and over a slot or tight end.
That adaptability is essential.
He did not participate in a test this year, so we do not have current measurables. We saw him at the Under Armour Regionals in prior years and had testing done on him.
He needs to put on weight and keep improving his straight-line speed if he wants to play sooner and eventually play beyond college.
Because of his instincts, he positions himself well to make plays.
As a senior, Bass is a recruit who will undoubtedly be watched to determine whether his 88 rating has to be adjusted.
