Jordan Morgan was expected to adjust to the NFL fast by the Green Bay Packers. Regretfully, he has already encountered a setback during the training camp.
On August 7, head coach Matt LaFleur had a conversation with media. He disclosed at the press conference that Morgan will be out for a while due to a shoulder issue.
He will most likely be absent for a week or so, according to LaFleur. “Nothing enduring.”
The injury is a setback to Morgan’s long-term development as he attempts to settle into a right guard role. The good news is that it shouldn’t be a permanent problem, and before the 2024 season starts, the Packers will probably have him recovered and available for at least one preseason game.
What Is The Long-Term Role of Jordan Morgan?
Versatile offensive lineman have been developed by the Packers in the past. Morgan could be the next offensive lineman to be able to play every position.
During his tenure in college, Morgan played left tackle for the Arizona Wildcats as a full-time starter. He excelled in that capacity, being named to the Pac-12 All-Star team in consecutive seasons.
But Morgan was smaller than average for a tackle when he entered the NFL. He was classified as 6 feet 5 inches tall, 311 pounds, and had an arm length of less than 33 inches before to the draft. Morgan would rank eighth out of all NFL offensive linemen with that arm length.
Because of his smaller stature and the presence of two proven starters in Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker, Morgan was positioned at guard to begin his NFL career. Morgan will start at guard, but he will eventually have opportunity to train throughout the offensive line, according to offensive coach Adam Stenavich.
Stenavich told reporters, “We looked, and we thought the right guard position was the best spot.” “For now, we’ll concentrate there. We can move him about as he learns and improves there, or if he does admirably there, we can move him right away. We’re concentrating on keeping him in one place for the time being so he can truly focus and perform at his highest level.
Morgan still has a lot of time to get his bearings. However, an injury this early in his NFL career could make it more difficult for him to be prepared for Week 1’s play.
Most Recent Injuries for Packers
It’s not just Morgan who has ailments at Packers training camp.
The front of the Packers’ defensive line is currently struggling with numerous ailments. The team is thin at the position because Kingsley Enagbare, Keshawn Banks, and Deslin Alexandre are all listed as injured. In response, Brian Gutekunst added former Detroit Lions pass rusher Zach Morton to the team’s 90-man roster.
Josh Jacobs, the running back for the Packers, returned to action, which is good news. The experienced running back appears explosive and will have a significant impact on Green Bay’s offense, according to LaFleur’s observation on August 7.
LaFleur remarked, “I just get so excited that he can do it all.” He can be a weapon in the passing game by catching the ball out of the backfield as well as protecting passes. He is in really good hands. It was thrilling to watch him reach some speeds yesterday.
