CONFIRMED: Highest-Ranked Tennessee Football Players to Leave Are Set to Leave Through The Transfer Portal

The offseason in Knoxville has been anything but quiet. As the college football landscape continues to evolve under the ever-shifting terrain of the NCAA transfer portal, Tennessee has seen a wave of talent exit the program. While Josh Heupel and his staff are hard at work reloading and reinforcing the roster, the departures of several high-profile Vols have left fans both surprised and concerned.

Leading the list of exits is Tyree Weathersby, the former four-star defensive lineman whose upside had Vols fans excited for the future. Known for his explosive first step and relentless motor, Weathersby battled through injuries but was expected to play a larger role in 2025. Instead, he hit the portal, drawing immediate attention from Power Five programs in need of a disruptive interior lineman.

Another big name to leave Rocky Top is Jack Luttrell, the athletic and versatile defensive back who had flashed potential in the secondary. A 2023 signee, Luttrell’s departure stings not only because of his talent, but because of the depth concerns it raises in the defensive backfield. Known for his ball skills and special teams contributions, Luttrell was expected to compete for a rotational role this season.

Perhaps the most surprising move came from Cameron Seldon, the dynamic athlete recruited as both a receiver and running back. Though he saw limited touches in 2024, his game-breaking speed and versatility made him a potential breakout candidate. Seldon’s decision to enter the portal reflects a growing theme across the nation: young, explosive players seeking earlier opportunities elsewhere.

Also joining the list are linemen Mo Clipper and Vysen Lang, both highly regarded recruits who added depth to the trenches. Their exits will require the Vols to lean heavily on incoming freshmen and transfers to maintain physicality up front.

While Tennessee has also been active in the portal, bringing in key replacements, the losses this offseason underscore the volatility of modern roster building. As the program continues to push for SEC contention, balancing retention and recruitment has never been more critical.

For Vol Nation, the hope is that these exits fuel opportunity—for new stars to rise, and for Heupel’s vision to keep the program charging forward.
