Charlton Athletic striker Matty Godden has made it clear that he won’t be pursuing a coaching or managerial career once his playing days are over. After scoring the decisive goal in Charlton’s League One play-off semi-final second leg win over Wycombe Wanderers, Godden is now aiming to add to his 22 goals this season in the play-off final against Leyton Orient at Wembley.
At 33, and with previous Wembley heartbreak from his time at Coventry City, Godden is already preparing for life after football. Speaking to the *South London Press*, he shared that he’s currently working through financial exams and sees his future in wealth management rather than on the training ground.
“Coaching doesn’t interest me,” he said. “I’d probably prefer to help younger players from a financial perspective. I love talking to people, but football demands so much time. I want to stay in sport, but more from a financial advisory angle.”
Despite already planning for the future, Godden emphasized he still has years left on the pitch. His preparations reflect a proactive approach to transitioning from professional football while staying connected to the sporting world.
