Andreas Pereira, currently a key player at Fulham, recently addressed swirling rumors about his future, following a string of transfer links—including speculation of a return to Manchester United. In a candid interview, the Brazilian midfielder opened up about where things stand as the summer transfer window approaches, making it clear that no final decision has been made.
Pereira has been with Fulham since 2022 and has a contract that runs until 2026, with an option to extend for an additional year. Despite this long-term deal, various reports from both England and Brazil have suggested he may be on the move. One of the more recent rumors pointed to former suitors Nottingham Forest and French club Marseille reigniting their interest, having seen offers rejected by Fulham in the previous summer window.
Back in January, Brazilian club Palmeiras reportedly made an attempt to lure Pereira back to his home country. However, he declined the offer, choosing instead to stay at Craven Cottage, expressing his commitment to Fulham at the time. Nevertheless, speculation about a potential departure has not died down. Flamengo has also emerged as a contender for his signature ahead of the upcoming window, according to RTI Esporte.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet O Globo, the 29-year-old addressed whether he was seriously considering returning to Brazil or staying in European football. Pereira was honest in saying he remains undecided and hasn’t had much time to think about his next step.
“I haven’t thought about it much,” Pereira admitted. “It was a tough end to the season. I told my agent that I’m going to take a vacation and stop playing for a bit. When I return, I want to prepare myself as best I can, because it’s a World Cup season. I want to be part of the group. I haven’t decided anything.”
His reference to the 2026 FIFA World Cup highlights that international football is playing a role in shaping his career decisions. Pereira earned a call-up to Brazil’s national team during the World Cup qualifiers, a significant moment in his career. It’s clear that maintaining a high level of performance at club level—especially in a competitive European league—could be crucial for his chances to feature in Brazil’s plans for 2026.
This past season under Fulham boss Marco Silva, Pereira played a vital role in midfield. He featured in 37 matches across all competitions, logging 2,344 minutes. He managed to score two goals and provided seven assists, proving himself to be both a creator and a contributor from deeper positions on the pitch.
When asked by O Globo to evaluate his season at Fulham, Pereira gave himself a solid score: “Considering my time with the Brazilian national team, which was very important, I’d give it an 8. I worked hard, I scored my first goal in qualifying \[in the 4-0 win over Peru].”
He also spoke about how his role within the team has evolved: “Of course, there are always things I can improve on. But I’ve changed my position, I’ve played further back than in recent years, but I’ve still scored plenty of goals and created chances. It was very good for me.”
Ultimately, Pereira’s summer will be defined by both rest and reflection. While his agent may be fielding calls and considering offers, the player himself is focused on recovery and long-term goals. Whether he stays in the Premier League or returns to South America, Pereira’s next move will be made with one eye firmly on representing Brazil in the 2026 World Cup. Until then, fans and suitors alike will have to wait a little longer to see what comes next.
