Wisconsin Football Lands Commitment from Florida Defensive End Nicolas Clayton

The Wisconsin Badgers added another key piece to their defensive line on Saturday with a commitment from Florida native Nicolas Clayton. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound defensive end from Buchholz High School in Gainesville publicly announced his decision to join Wisconsin’s 2025 recruiting class via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Clayton had narrowed down his choices to Wisconsin, UCF, Florida State, Nebraska, and Tulane before ultimately choosing the Badgers. He had previously made an official visit to Madison earlier in June, which helped solidify his commitment.

Rated as a consensus three-star prospect by major recruiting services, Clayton becomes the 21st known pledge in Wisconsin’s 2025 recruiting cycle. His addition also continues a recent surge of commitments along the defensive front for the Badgers. He is now the third defensive lineman to join the class in just 11 days.

Earlier in the week, Wilnerson Telemaque—a 6-foot-6, 250-pound lineman from Miami—announced his commitment to Wisconsin. Additionally, Middleton (Wisconsin) standout Torin Pettaway reaffirmed his commitment to the program on June 11. Pettaway had initially committed to the Badgers before flipping to Minnesota in March, only to change his mind again and return to UW.

With Clayton’s commitment, the Badgers continue to make strides in building a strong 2025 class under head coach Luke Fickell. While recruiting class rankings can shift frequently, Wisconsin was sitting in a solid position across various national platforms as of Saturday. Rivals ranked the Badgers’ 2025 class fifth nationally, while 247Sports had them at 11th, and On3 placed them at 20th.

The addition of Clayton and other recent defensive line commits highlights Wisconsin’s emphasis on strengthening its defense for the future. With several months remaining before the early signing period, the Badgers appear poised to continue building one of their strongest recruiting classes in recent history.
