The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with veteran running back J.K. Dobbins on a one-year contract reportedly worth $5.25 million, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and other league insiders.
Dobbins visited Denver last week for discussions but initially left without a signed contract. Despite that, the meeting was described as positive, and the Broncos kept him in mind as a potential addition. Now, he officially joins the team, where he’ll pair with rookie R.J. Harvey to help revitalize Denver’s ground attack.
Last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, Dobbins posted solid numbers — 905 rushing yards, a 4.6 yards-per-carry average, and nine rushing touchdowns — despite missing four games with a sprained MCL. He was on pace for a 1,000-yard season and double-digit touchdowns.
Bringing in Dobbins fills a major need for Denver at the running back position. He offers experience, consistency, and third-down reliability. His addition also allows the Broncos to use rookie R.J. Harvey in a more versatile role, similar to how the Saints used Alvin Kamara alongside Mark Ingram.
The move does, however, complicate things for running backs Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin. Both may now find themselves on the roster bubble, with their fate likely depending on factors like special teams contributions, pass protection skills, and head coach Sean Payton’s roster strategy.
While Dobbins has dealt with injuries in the past, including missing four games last year, the hope is that Denver’s training staff can help keep him healthy.
Overall, this signing is seen as a strong move. With an upgraded backfield and continued development from quarterback Bo Nix and other young players, the Broncos’ offense could take a major step forward in 2025.
