Latest Packer News: Jordan Love Made It Clear In Social Media Post That He Wants Green Bay Packers To Re-Sign 28-Years Old Superstar

Former Packers CB Jaire Alexander Could Be a Good Fit for NFC North Rival, Insider Suggests

The Green Bay Packers made a bold financial decision on Monday by parting ways with star cornerback Jaire Alexander. By doing so, they freed up $17.1 million in cap space but also lost one of their most talented defenders. Alexander, a former first-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft, has struggled with injuries, starting only 14 games over the past two seasons. This availability issue likely contributed to Green Bay’s reluctance to keep him at his current salary.

Reports indicate that the Packers offered Alexander a restructured deal that included a pay reduction. However, he and his agent declined, opting instead to explore the open market. That decision might come back to haunt the Packers — particularly quarterback Jordan Love — if Alexander signs with a division rival.

Minnesota Vikings Considered a Top Landing Spot

According to NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Minnesota Vikings are the most logical destination for Alexander. Now that he’s a free agent, and possibly feeling slighted by the team that once drafted him, Alexander could have extra motivation to sign with one of Green Bay’s NFC North opponents.

“Someone is going to snap him up quickly,” Florio wrote. “His talent isn’t in question. And considering he might have a chip on his shoulder after being cut, there’s a real chance he signs with a division rival. Among the Lions, Bears, and Vikings, Minnesota stands out. They need help in the secondary, and bringing in Alexander would also mean they don’t have to worry about him covering Justin Jefferson anymore.”

A Potential Alexander vs. Love Showdown

If Alexander does end up in Minnesota, it could create must-watch matchups when the Vikings and Packers face off next season. General manager Brian Gutekunst likely hoped to avoid strengthening a rival without receiving anything in return, but the Vikings wisely waited to see if Green Bay would cut him instead of offering draft compensation.

The Vikings had previously been linked to Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey in trade rumors, but Alexander presents an intriguing alternative. At 28 years old, he’s younger than Ramsey and could offer immediate help to Minnesota’s defense, particularly if they’re aiming for a postseason run.

If Alexander signs with the Vikings, fans can look forward to exciting clashes against Packers receivers like Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and newcomer Matthew Golden — twice in the 2025 season.
