Everton have shown strong interest in signing Anthony Caci, a highly adaptable defender from Bundesliga side Mainz, and are now competing with Fulham for his signature, according to TEAMtalk.
The Toffees are preparing for one of their most active transfer windows in recent memory, as manager David Moyes aims to rebuild the squad following the departure of 10 players. Among those to leave is veteran full-back Ashley Young, making the addition of a new full-back one of the club’s top priorities.
Sources indicate that Everton have been monitoring Caci for several weeks and now consider him a serious summer transfer target. Fulham have also been in pursuit of the 27-year-old, having held talks with Mainz back in January to explore a possible deal, and they remain interested as the summer window opens.
Caci is under contract at Mainz until 2026, but the German side is reportedly willing to sell, given the low likelihood of an extension. The French defender could be available for under €10 million (£8.5 million), making him an appealing option in today’s inflated transfer market.
What makes Caci particularly attractive is his versatility. He can play as a right-back, left-back, or even as a right midfielder. With Seamus Coleman nearing the end of his career, Nathan Patterson underperforming, and limited left-back options aside from Vitaliy Mykolenko, Caci could fill multiple gaps for Moyes across the back line and in midfield.
Caci featured in 35 matches for Mainz in the 2024/25 season, scoring once and providing seven assists. His delivery from wide areas, highlighted by 25 completed crosses during the campaign, could prove valuable to Everton’s attacking play.
Fulham also value his flexibility and creativity, which makes them a serious competitor for his signature. Both Premier League sides see the €10 million asking price as reasonable and may look to move quickly to secure a deal.
Meanwhile, Everton are also being linked with another full-back option — West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal — who will be available as a free agent. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining which club will land Caci.
