Virginia Tech football: DL Kamdon Gillespie commits to Hokies

Virginia Tech football has added another promising name to its 2026 recruiting class. Just a day after losing three-star wide receiver Carnell Warren, who announced his decommitment on Thursday, the Hokies bounced back with two positive additions.

On Friday, edge rusher Kamren Johnson from Virginia Beach announced his commitment to the Hokies. Following that, defensive lineman Kamdon Gillespie joined the class on Saturday, bringing some renewed momentum to Virginia Tech’s recruiting efforts.

Gillespie, a three-star defensive lineman from Mooresville High School in Mooresville, North Carolina, stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 245 pounds. With more than 20 scholarship offers on the table, Gillespie ultimately selected Virginia Tech over Georgia Tech, his other finalist. Other programs in pursuit of him included Boston College, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

The Hokies have been monitoring Gillespie for the past two years. A recent official visit to Blacksburg helped confirm his decision to join the program, solidifying his connection with the coaching staff and the school.

When watching his game film, Gillespie shows a skill set comparable to fellow commit Kamren Johnson. He brings length and athleticism to the field and frequently dominates his matchups. With room to further develop physically, Gillespie appears to have a high ceiling. He’s also a standout baseball player, excelling as a pitcher, which further highlights his overall athleticism.

Gillespie becomes the fourth commit in Virginia Tech’s 2026 recruiting class, joining Johnson, Will Love, and Joshua Pittman. Despite the setback of Warren’s departure, the Hokies remain active on the recruiting trail. With June being a pivotal month for commitments, fans should expect more additions to come soon.
