Breaking: Virginia Tech football de-commit visiting a potentially nightmare landing spot

Former Virginia Tech Commit Visiting Rival ACC School, Raising Concerns for Hokies Fans

A recent Virginia Tech decommitment is now exploring other options, including a trip to a destination that might concern Hokies supporters. Four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren, who originally pledged to Virginia Tech in January, is now planning a visit to Chapel Hill to meet with North Carolina’s coaching staff.

Warren, a standout prospect from South Carolina in the Class of 2026, was seen as a key addition for Hokies head coach Brent Pry. After securing his commitment, Warren became vocal on social media, encouraging other recruits to join him in Blacksburg. That momentum abruptly ended last week when Warren unexpectedly withdrew his commitment and reopened his recruitment as he heads into his senior high school season.

This marks the second notable loss for Virginia Tech’s 2026 class, following Peyton Falzone’s decommitment in November. Falzone eventually flipped to Penn State. Now, Pry and his staff are once again left with a gap to fill.

As for Warren’s next steps, he is scheduled to visit the University of North Carolina this weekend, where he will meet with newly hired head coach Bill Belichick. Given Belichick’s stature and legacy, it’s understandable that Warren would be drawn to UNC. If Warren ultimately decides to commit to the Tar Heels, it would represent a major recruiting blow to Virginia Tech.

Warren has also received an offer from Georgia Southern since reopening his recruitment. Prior to his commitment to Virginia Tech, his top choices included Duke, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest. It’s also possible that new Wake Forest head coach Jake Dickert may now pursue him as well.

Although Virginia Tech has secured two new commitments in the Class of 2026 since Warren’s decision, there’s still significant work ahead for Pry and his staff. Warren’s upcoming visit to UNC is certainly a storyline worth monitoring.
