Exclusive: Charlton Athletic forward in talks to join AFC Wimbledon

Charlton Athletic Striker Daniel Kanu in Loan Talks with AFC Wimbledon

Charlton Athletic forward Daniel Kanu is in advanced discussions over a potential loan move to AFC Wimbledon, Football League World has exclusively revealed. The 19-year-old striker, regarded as one of Charlton’s brightest young prospects, could make the temporary switch in search of more regular first-team football.

Kanu, who came through the youth ranks at Charlton, has impressed with his pace, physicality, and eye for goal. He made his senior debut during the 2022/23 season and has since been on the fringes of the first-team squad, but opportunities have been limited due to competition for places.

A move to League Two side AFC Wimbledon is seen as a strategic step in his development. The Dons are believed to be keen on adding firepower to their attack as they aim to push for a promotion challenge in the 2025/26 season. Kanu’s energy and pressing ability would be a natural fit for Johnnie Jackson’s system the manager who, interestingly, gave Kanu his first-team debut during his time at Charlton.

Sources indicate that talks are progressing well, with all parties hopeful of reaching an agreement soon. Charlton are understood to see the loan as a key part of Kanu’s progression, expecting him to return more experienced and better prepared for senior football at a higher level.

If completed, the deal would reunite Kanu with a familiar coaching setup and give AFC Wimbledon a promising young talent with the potential to make an immediate impact in League Two. Expect confirmation in the coming days as negotiations near a conclusion.
