Birmingham City Set to Sign Kanya Fujimoto After Gil Vicente Departure, Joining Kyogo Furuhashi in Double Swoop
Birmingham City are on the verge of completing a double swoop for two Japanese internationals, with Kanya Fujimoto and Kyogo Furuhashi both set to arrive at St. Andrew’s this summer.
According to a fresh report by Neil Moxley of GiveMeSport, midfielder Fujimoto, who recently departed Portuguese side Gil Vicente after the expiration of his contract in June, is now set to officially sign with the Blues. The 25-year-old has long been on Birmingham’s radar, although concerns about his short- and long-term fitness previously stalled negotiations.
However, with those issues apparently resolved, the Second City club have moved swiftly to finalise a deal making Fujimoto the latest piece in what is shaping up to be a major summer rebuild under Tom Wagner’s ambitious ownership group.
Joining him will be Kyogo Furuhashi, who is poised to return to the UK just six months after leaving Celtic for French side Stade Rennais in a £10 million move. Furuhashi has struggled for minutes in Ligue 1 and is now looking to reignite his career in England’s second tier.
The double signing signals Birmingham’s serious intent to challenge for immediate promotion to the Premier League, following last season’s successful campaign. Both Fujimoto and Furuhashi bring international pedigree and attacking flair, with Kyogo especially known for his lethal finishing and movement off the ball.
These moves also reunite Furuhashi with manager Chris Davies, who previously worked with him at Celtic, and further deepen Birmingham’s connection to the Japanese market, with Tomoki Iwata already on the books.
With Fujimoto’s creativity in midfield and Furuhashi’s proven goal-scoring ability, Birmingham City are assembling a squad that looks increasingly equipped for back-to-back promotions and they’re doing it with bold, international flair.
