Breaking: Indiana Fever Officially Released Another Top Veteran Superstar Because Of…

Calls Grow for Chicago Sky to Sign Recently Released Aari McDonald

The Chicago Sky are off to a difficult start in the 2025 WNBA season, holding a 2–6 record after the first month of play. Under new head coach Tyler Marsh, the team still has a lot to work out, including addressing a -13.5 point differential—second-worst in the league, according to Pro Basketball Reference.

Matters got worse when veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot suffered a torn ACL during last Saturday’s matchup with the Indiana Fever. Vandersloot, a 15-year WNBA mainstay, had been steering the Sky’s offense, averaging 12 points and 6.2 assists per game before her season-ending injury.

In a possible stroke of luck for Chicago, the Fever just waived guard Aari McDonald on Friday. McDonald had joined Indiana earlier in the season on an emergency hardship deal after Caitlin Clark was sidelined. In her three appearances, McDonald put up a strong showing, averaging 11 points per game.

After news of McDonald’s release broke, Sky supporters flooded social media urging the team to bring her in immediately to help bolster the league’s lowest-ranked scoring attack. Fans posted messages such as:

  • “Aari McDonald, do you like deep dish pizza and concrete beaches???”
  • “@chicagosky get on your Zoom!!!”
  • “Yea, Aari McDonald headed to Chicago. Called that right after Sloot’s injury. Surprised Indy didn’t find a way to keep her.”

Others chimed in predicting or demanding the signing:

  • “Aari will be a Chicago Sky!”
  • “The next tweet after this should’ve been Marsh announcing she’d signed for the rest of the season. They need a point guard badly.”
  • “Aari, YOU are a Chicago Sky.”
  • “Jeff & Tyler should’ve called Aari McDonald yesterday if they want to do anything this year. #SkyTown.”
  • “Chicago star calling!!!”

McDonald, now a four-year WNBA veteran, has previously played for the Atlanta Dream and Los Angeles Sparks. Over her career, she has averaged 8.7 points, 2.8 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal per game.
