Caitlin Clark is set to return to action for the Indiana Fever on Wednesday after being sidelined for five games due to a left groin injury. The Fever are scheduled to host the Golden State Valkyries, and Clark confirmed her intentions to be on the court after resuming full practice earlier this week.
The All-Star guard participated in a 5-on-5 scrimmage during Monday’s practice, which was open to the team’s season ticket holders. It marked her first time engaging in full-contact team drills since suffering the injury on June 26. With no apparent setbacks following the practice, Clark is expected to suit up and play on Wednesday.
“It felt really good to be back out there with my teammates, getting into the rhythm of the game again,” Clark shared with reporters following Tuesday’s practice session. “I’ve missed being out there. Watching from the sidelines is tough, so I’m really excited to return and feel the game again.”
This marks the second time this season Clark has dealt with an injury. So far, she has only appeared in nine of the Fever’s 18 regular-season games. She was also a key figure in the team’s WNBA Commissioner’s Cup win over the Minnesota Lynx but missed multiple contests due to a previous left quadriceps injury earlier in the season.
Looking ahead to Wednesday’s game, Clark noted she’s aiming to play a significant amount of minutes, though her final playing time will be based on how the game unfolds and how she feels physically. “I’m hoping to be on the court for a good stretch, maybe in the high 20s in terms of minutes,” she said. “But I’m also being smart about my recovery. I don’t want to push too hard and risk another setback. It’s important for me to come back the right way and stay healthy for the long run.”
Clark’s return is expected to give the Fever a much-needed boost as they continue to fight for a stronger standing in the league. Her leadership and playmaking have been vital for Indiana, and fans will be eager to see her back in action at home.
