Tiffany Mitchell Joins Seattle Storm: A Deep Dive into Her Career and Impact
The Seattle Storm have officially added veteran guard Tiffany Mitchell to their roster, marking a significant move ahead of the All-Star break. Mitchell began the 2025 WNBA season with the Las Vegas Aces, where she played 16 games, contributing an average of 3.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in just over 13 minutes per contest. Known for her exceptional free-throw shooting, Mitchell is one of only ten players in WNBA history to shoot above 90% from the charity stripe in at least three seasons (with a minimum of 50 attempts per season).
Mitchell’s professional journey in the WNBA started when she was selected ninth overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. She spent seven seasons with the Fever, making an immediate impact by earning All-Rookie Team honors in her debut season. Her legacy in Indiana is cemented with her name etched in the franchise’s record books—ranking fifth in all-time scoring with 1,996 points, eighth in assists (381), and tenth in steals (168). In the 2020 season, she led the entire league in free throw percentage, finishing with an impressive 95.1%. She also ranked in the top 10 for free throw percentage in 2016, 2017, and 2020.
In 2023, Mitchell joined the Minnesota Lynx, where she posted solid numbers—averaging 7.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over 33 games. The following year, she was traded to the Connecticut Sun. While with Connecticut, Mitchell appeared in 24 games, averaging 4.9 points and 1.5 rebounds while coming off the bench. Despite modest offensive stats, her defensive prowess was exceptional. According to Genius Sports tracking data, Mitchell held opponents to a 36.2% effective field goal percentage in 677 half-court defensive matchups, the lowest mark among 117 defenders with at least 100 matchups during the 2024 season.
Mitchell’s influence extends beyond the WNBA, thanks to a successful international career. In 2019, she won the Israeli Female Basketball Premier League title with Elitzur Ramla. She also spent multiple seasons (2021–2023) in Australia’s WNBL, where she played for the Melbourne Boomers and helped them secure a championship in 2022. Most recently, she played overseas for Hapoel Lev Jerusalem, where she delivered standout performances, averaging 16.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 steals, leading her team to the Israeli League Semifinals.
Mitchell’s roots trace back to the University of South Carolina, where she enjoyed a historic college career. In 2023, the Gamecocks retired her No. 25 jersey, and a year later, she was inducted into the Association of Lettermen’s Athletics Hall of Fame. A three-time All-American, Mitchell was named SEC Player of the Year and received the prestigious Dawn Staley Award in 2015. By the end of her college career in 2016, she was considered the most accomplished women’s basketball player in program history.
As the Seattle Storm prepare to face the Connecticut Sun at Climate Pledge Arena at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, Mitchell’s arrival comes at a crucial time during a three-game homestand. Her veteran leadership, two-way impact, and deep postseason experience both domestically and internationally make her a valuable asset as the Storm aim to make a strong push before the All-Star break.
