NFL Insider: More jubilation as Saints completes the signing of top experience defensive veteran to their squad

The New Orleans Saints Are Adding More Experience to Their Defense

With training camp just around the corner, the New Orleans Saints are bolstering their defensive depth by bringing in a seasoned veteran. According to a report by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Saints will sign defensive lineman **Jonathan Bullard**, adding both experience and versatility to their front line.

Bullard, 30, has played for several NFL teams since being drafted in the third round by the Chicago Bears in 2016. Known for his ability to contribute as a rotational piece on the defensive line, Bullard has carved out a career with stints in Chicago, Arizona, Seattle, Atlanta, and most recently, Minnesota. His familiarity with multiple defensive schemes makes him a valuable asset, particularly for a Saints team aiming to improve its consistency in the trenches.

In 2023 with the Minnesota Vikings, Bullard appeared in 14 games and started 12, recording 44 tackles, including five tackles for loss and a sack. Though not flashy in the stat sheet, Bullard has built a reputation as a reliable run-stopper who holds the line of scrimmage and helps free up linebackers to make plays.

The Saints have long prioritized depth and experience on their defensive line, especially as they prepare for the rigors of a 17-game season. Bullard is expected to compete for snaps in a rotation that features Cameron Jordan, Carl Granderson, Bryan Bresee, and Nathan Shepherd, among others. His arrival gives defensive coordinator Joe Woods more flexibility, especially in early-down situations.

New Orleans had shown interest in Bullard earlier in the offseason, and his signing now reflects a calculated move to shore up one of the team’s most important units before camp begins. With Bullard in the fold, the Saints not only gain a battle-tested veteran but also a leader who can mentor younger linemen and provide steady play during a crucial 2025 campaign.

Bullard’s deal is expected to be finalized pending a physical, and he should join the team in time for the opening of training camp later this month.
