The Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers could potentially be involved in a major trade in the near future, as speculation continues to grow around the Brewers’ willingness to move key players. After a disappointing postseason exit against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee made it clear that they were open to reshaping their roster and focusing on long-term success.
During the offseason, the Brewers made several notable trades, moving players such as Freddy Peralta, Isaac Collins, and Caleb Durbin. While these decisions may have surprised some fans, the organization appears to be prioritizing future development over short-term results. Many analysts believe these moves could benefit the team in the long run, and it seems Milwaukee may not be finished making bold roster changes.
One potential move gaining attention is a hypothetical blockbuster trade proposed by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller. In this scenario, the Brewers would send All-Star closer Trevor Megill to the Texas Rangers in exchange for highly regarded prospect Caden Scarborough, who is currently ranked as the Rangers’ No. 2 prospect.
The idea behind this trade aligns with a strategy the Brewers have successfully used in the past. Milwaukee has built a reputation for developing elite closers and then trading them before they reach free agency. This approach allows the team to maximize value rather than risk losing players without compensation. The Brewers previously executed similar moves with standout relievers Josh Hader and Devin Williams.

Another factor supporting this potential move is the presence of Abner Uribe, a young and promising pitcher who could step into the closer role. Uribe is under team control through at least 2030, making him a viable long-term replacement for Megill.
From the Rangers’ perspective, acquiring a dependable closer could address a major weakness. Their lack of a consistent option in the bullpen was a key issue during the 2025 season, and adding a proven arm like Megill could significantly improve their chances of competing.
In return, the Brewers would receive Caden Scarborough, a talented young pitcher with strong potential. Although he is not yet considered a top-tier prospect, he possesses the physical tools and upside to develop into a high-impact player. Milwaukee’s track record of developing pitchers suggests they could help him reach his full potential, possibly even becoming a future ace.
