There is growing speculation that the New York Yankees could consider moving on from outfielder Jasson Dominguez, especially given his current situation to begin the 2026 season. The young prospect has started the year in Triple-A, and with the Yankees’ crowded roster, it remains uncertain when—or if—he will see consistent playing time in the majors this season.
While this isn’t necessarily a reflection of his talent, it does suggest that a fresh start elsewhere might benefit both the player and the organization.
A recent mock trade proposal from SI.com’s Thomas Carelli highlights a potential deal between the Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals. In this scenario, New York would send Dominguez to St. Louis in exchange for catcher Ivan Herrera and outfielder Victor Scott II. The idea presents an interesting possibility, as it addresses certain roster dynamics for both teams.
From the Cardinals’ perspective, Dominguez represents a high-upside player who could thrive in a new environment with more opportunities. Meanwhile, the Yankees would receive two players who could provide depth at positions of need. Herrera, although not filling an urgent gap for New York, had a solid offensive showing last season. He posted a .284 batting average, along with 22 extra-base hits and 66 RBIs across 102 games, indicating he could be a reliable contributor behind the plate or in a supporting role.
Victor Scott II, on the other hand, is known more for his defensive abilities than his bat. As a center fielder, his value lies in his range and fielding, making him a potential depth option for the Yankees’ outfield. While he may not immediately step into a major role, his presence could provide flexibility, particularly if roster changes occur later in the season.
The reasoning behind such a trade also ties into the Yankees’ current roster construction. While those numbers show potential, he has still not reached 500 career at-bats in the majors, leaving questions about his long-term role with the team.
