Kentucky Basketball continues to stay active in the transfer portal, and another new name has emerged as a potential target for the Wildcats. Forward Jason Rivera-Torres is reportedly drawing attention from multiple programs after a productive season at Monmouth, and Kentucky is among the schools that have shown interest in him as it looks to strengthen its roster.
Rivera-Torres is coming off an impressive year in which he earned All-CAA Second Team honors. Standing 6-foot-7, he proved to be a versatile and impactful player for Monmouth, contributing in nearly every major area of the game. During the season, he averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. Those numbers reflect not only his scoring ability, but also his value as a rebounder, playmaker, and defender. His all-around production made him one of Monmouth’s most important players and helped him attract growing interest in the portal.
For Kentucky, Rivera-Torres could represent the kind of experienced and flexible addition that teams often seek during the offseason. His ability to impact both ends of the floor makes him an appealing option. Offensively, he showed he can score consistently while also helping facilitate opportunities for teammates. Defensively, his steals and blocks indicate that he can create disruption and provide energy, something that is always valued at the high-major level. Rivera-Torres has already taken a unique path through college basketball. He began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt during the 2023–24 season. While playing for the Commodores, he averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds across 29 games, while logging roughly 15 minutes per contest. Though his role at Vanderbilt was more limited, he still showed flashes of potential that suggested he could grow into a more productive player with increased opportunity.
After his time at Vanderbilt, Rivera-Torres transferred to San Francisco. However, that stop did not provide the expanded role he may have been seeking, as his playing time decreased. Eventually, he moved on to Monmouth, where he found the opportunity to play a much larger role and fully display his abilities. That decision clearly paid off, as he delivered the best season of his college career and significantly raised his profile.
Now Rivera-Torres is back in the transfer portal and preparing for what could be his fourth school in four years. While that level of movement may stand out, it also reflects the modern reality of college basketball, where players frequently seek the best fit for their development and future opportunities. His latest season suggests he still has plenty to offer at a high level.
As Kentucky continues to evaluate portal options, Rivera-Torres appears to be another player worth monitoring closely. With his size, versatility, and strong production, he has become a notable name in the portal. Whether the Wildcats ultimately land him remains to be seen, but their reported interest shows that his breakout season at Monmouth has not gone unnoticed.
