Auburn forward Sebastian Williams-Adams has confirmed he will return to the program for his sophomore season, providing a major boost for the Tigers following their successful NIT run. His decision comes on the heels of a standout performance in the championship game, where he played a key role in Auburn’s dramatic victory over Tulsa.
In that title game, Williams-Adams contributed 13 points, along with three rebounds and two steals, helping Auburn rally late and secure a 92-86 overtime win. His effort was instrumental in completing the comeback and ultimately delivering the NIT championship to the Tigers. That performance capped off an impressive freshman campaign and highlighted his importance to the team moving forward.

With head coach Steven Pearl entering his second season leading the program, Williams-Adams is expected to be a central figure in Auburn’s plans. His return gives the team stability and experience, particularly on the defensive end, where he has already established himself as one of the most versatile players on the roster.
According to Auburn’s official release, the Houston native made a strong impact during his first year. He set a new program record for steals by a freshman with 47 and logged 1,039 minutes, the third-highest total ever recorded by a true freshman at Auburn. These accomplishments reflect both his durability and the trust the coaching staff placed in him throughout the season.
Williams-Adams has built a reputation as a high-level defender capable of guarding multiple positions, making him a valuable asset in various game situations. In addition to his defensive contributions, he also showed growth offensively. He recorded 10 games with double-digit scoring and reached a career-high of 15 points on two occasions. One of those performances came in Auburn’s NIT second-round win over Seattle, where he was nearly flawless, making all six of his field-goal attempts.
Before arriving at Auburn, Williams-Adams was a highly regarded prospect. He was rated as a four-star recruit out of St. John’s School in Houston, Texas, and ranked as the No. 12 power forward in the 2025 recruiting class. During his freshman season, he appeared in all 38 games, averaging 7.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while playing 27.3 minutes per contest.
His decision to return is especially significant given the roster changes Auburn is currently navigating. While teammates Kevin Overton and Simon Walker have also announced they will be back next season, the team has seen some departures, with rising sophomores Filip Jovic and Kaden Magwood entering the transfer portal.
The Tigers are still awaiting decisions from other key players, including Tahaad Pettiford and Elyjah Freeman. Pettiford, in particular, is a crucial piece after finishing second on the team in scoring last season with an average of 15.4 points per game.
As the transfer portal window remains open until April 21, Auburn’s roster for next season is still taking shape. However, Williams-Adams’ return provides a strong foundation for the team as it looks to build on its recent success and carry momentum into the upcoming season.
