Auburn Tigers football capped off its A-Day spring event with a major recruiting win, securing a commitment from four-star tight end George Lamons Jr. shortly after the game concluded. The addition gives head coach Alex Golesh and his staff their second pledge for the 2027 recruiting class, continuing to build early momentum for the cycle.

Lamons, who attends Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia, is regarded as one of the more intriguing prospects in his class. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing around 215 pounds, he possesses the size and athleticism that make him a versatile offensive weapon. His hometown sits just north of the Florida state line, placing him in a competitive recruiting region known for producing high-level talent.
The talented pass-catcher had no shortage of elite options before making his decision. Auburn ultimately won out over several powerhouse programs, including Florida Gators football, Alabama Crimson Tide football, and Florida State Seminoles football. His commitment highlights Auburn’s ability to compete with top-tier schools for highly sought-after recruits.
Interestingly, Lamons’ recruiting journey has already included a notable twist. He had previously committed to Texas A&M Aggies football but chose to reopen his recruitment in July 2025. Since then, he has carefully evaluated his options before ultimately deciding that Auburn was the best fit for his future.
Evaluations of Lamons vary among recruiting services, largely due to uncertainty about his long-term position at the collegiate level. While he is currently ranked as the No. 11 tight end in the 2027 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he has also drawn significant attention as a wide receiver. His skill set—combining size, speed, and pass-catching ability—allows him to line up in multiple roles, making him a valuable asset in modern offensive schemes.
In addition to his positional ranking, Lamons is listed as the No. 244 overall prospect nationally and the No. 27 player in the state of Georgia. These rankings reflect both his current production and his potential to develop into an even more impactful player at the next level.
With Lamons now on board, Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class continues to take shape. He joins fellow four-star recruit Donivan Moore, a defensive lineman who previously committed to the Tigers. Together, the pair gives Auburn a strong early foundation on both sides of the ball.
Landing Lamons not only strengthens Auburn’s future offensive outlook but also signals growing confidence in the program’s recruiting direction. If the Tigers can continue to build on this momentum, their 2027 class has the potential to become one of the more competitive groups in the conference.
