Big Win for Kentucky Wildcats football: Program Secures Commitment from Elite 5-Star Linebacker in Class of 2027

The Kentucky Wildcats football program continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail, securing another important addition for the future with a commitment from talented linebacker Antwoine Higgins Jr. out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Higgins, a member of the Class of 2027, officially announced his decision to play college football in Lexington, choosing Kentucky over several other notable programs.

Higgins selected the Wildcats over finalists such as Purdue Boilermakers football, Indiana Hoosiers football, and Louisville Cardinals football. His commitment adds to what is shaping up to be a strong recruiting class, as he becomes the 11th player to pledge to Kentucky in the 2027 cycle. Interestingly, Higgins made his decision just days before he was scheduled to take an official visit to Indiana, signaling a high level of confidence in his choice.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing around 223 pounds, Higgins currently plays at Anderson High School Cincinnati, where he has developed into one of the more intriguing defensive prospects in his class. Known for his physicality and instincts, Higgins has earned a reputation as a disruptive force on defense. Recruiting analysts have highlighted his ability to rush the passer effectively, describing him as a natural edge threat who can consistently apply pressure.

According to evaluations from recruiting experts, Higgins is also a reliable tackler who plays with efficiency and discipline. Andrew Ivins of 247Sports praised his technique, noting that he makes plays with “little wasted motion,” a trait that often separates good defenders from great ones. His ability to read plays quickly and react without hesitation makes him a valuable asset at the linebacker position.

In terms of rankings, Higgins is regarded as a solid four-star prospect by major recruiting services. Based on the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is listed among the top players nationally, coming in at No. 524 overall. He is also ranked as the No. 42 linebacker in the country and the No. 18 overall prospect in the state of Ohio. These rankings reflect both his current skill set and his potential to develop into a high-impact player at the collegiate level.

While his final decision came down to a smaller group of schools, Higgins attracted attention from several powerhouse programs throughout his recruitment. Schools such as Alabama Crimson Tide football, Ohio State Buckeyes football, Michigan Wolverines football, and Oregon Ducks football were among those that extended scholarship offers, underscoring the level of talent he brings to the table.

With Higgins now in the fold, Kentucky continues to strengthen its defensive unit for the future. He becomes the second linebacker in the 2027 class to commit to the Wildcats, joining fellow recruit Ty Ashley. Additionally, Higgins ranks among the top commitments in the class, trailing only players like quarterback Jake Nawrot, safety Tristin Hughes, and defensive lineman Elijah Brown in overall rating.

Overall, Higgins’ commitment represents another step forward for Kentucky as it continues to compete for top-tier talent and build a strong foundation for future success.
