The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball have officially added another impactful piece to their roster with the signing of forward Justin McBride, a versatile 6-foot-7 transfer expected to bring scoring, rebounding, and experience to the program heading into the upcoming season.
McBride arrives in Lexington after a standout campaign at James Madison University, where he emerged as one of the Sun Belt Conference’s most productive forwards. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 15.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 49.4 percent from the field and an impressive 40 percent from beyond the three-point line. His all-around production and consistent offensive output earned him All-Sun Belt Third Team honors.
One of McBride’s most notable strengths is his ability to score in a variety of ways. He reached double figures in 22 contests last season and showcased his explosive scoring potential multiple times throughout the year. His most memorable performance came against Norfolk State, when he erupted for 33 points — the highest single-game scoring total by a James Madison player at the school’s home arena. He also posted another 30-point outing during the season, proving his ability to take over games offensively when needed.
Before starring at James Madison, McBride gained valuable experience at both the University of Nevada, Reno and Oklahoma State University, giving him exposure to multiple high-level college basketball programs and systems. That diverse collegiate background has helped shape him into a polished, battle-tested player capable of adapting quickly to new environments.
Kentucky’s coaching staff is expected to lean on McBride’s maturity and experience as they continue building a competitive roster. His size, athleticism, and perimeter shooting should provide the Wildcats with added flexibility in the frontcourt, while his rebounding and defensive instincts could help strengthen Kentucky on both ends of the floor.
Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival, there will naturally be questions about how McBride’s production will translate to the heightened competition of the SEC and the pressure that comes with playing for Kentucky.
