Bryce Harper has made it crystal clear—he wants the Philadelphia Phillies to re-sign one of his most trusted and valued teammates: Kyle Schwarber.
The Phillies have emerged as one of the top contenders for the 2025 World Series, entering June with an impressive 36-20 record over their first 56 games. Their early success has been powered by standout performances from several key players, especially veteran contributors. Among them, Schwarber has stood out with another strong campaign as the team’s designated hitter.
Harper, one of the team’s most prominent voices, recently expressed his desire to see Schwarber remain in Philadelphia for the long haul. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, the star first baseman said, “I don’t see Schwarber playing anywhere else. Obviously, I don’t make those decisions. But as a leader and a captain, he brings so much to this team—on and off the field.”
Schwarber is in the final season of a four-year, $79 million contract he signed in March 2022. Since joining the Phillies, the two-time All-Star has been a consistent power threat, hitting 46 home runs in 2022, 47 in 2023, and 38 in 2024—all while driving in 104 RBIs in back-to-back seasons. He has quickly become a fan favorite and a key component of the Phillies’ offensive core.
Through the first 56 games of the 2025 season, Schwarber has already belted 19 home runs with 41 RBIs and a .252 batting average. His on-base and slugging percentages (.394 and .569, respectively) remain among the league’s best. A recent milestone—a 466-foot homer against the Rockies on May 19—marked the 300th of his career, further solidifying his legacy.
Fans and teammates alike recognize Schwarber’s immense value, and Harper’s comments reflect that sentiment. Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski echoed similar thoughts, saying on The Show, “We’d love to keep Schwarber here long-term. I’m sure other teams will be interested, but we hope to work something out.”
With Philadelphia tied for the third-best odds to win the 2025 World Series, retaining Schwarber could be vital to their championship aspirations. If the front office can extend his contract, the Phillies might not only strengthen their lineup but also secure a key clubhouse leader for years to come.
