Auburn Tigers Make Shocking Decision on 5-Star Wide Receiver’s Scholarship Status

Alabama Football Flips Former Auburn Commit Cedrick Simmons in Class of 2027 Recruiting Battle

The Alabama Crimson Tide have made a major move on the recruiting trail by securing a commitment from one of the state’s most impressive young football talents. Class of 2027 wide receiver Cedrick Simmons has officially chosen Alabama, just weeks after previously announcing his commitment to rival program Auburn.

Simmons’ decision represents a significant recruiting win for Alabama, as the Crimson Tide were able to convince one of the top emerging playmakers in the region to change his plans and continue his football journey in Tuscaloosa. The talented wide receiver is coming off a remarkable junior season at Selma High School, where he put together numbers that stood out among the best performances in Alabama high school football.

During his standout campaign, Simmons recorded an incredible 106 receptions for 2,192 receiving yards, leading the entire state of Alabama in receiving production. His ability to consistently make big plays helped establish him as one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the state. Along with his impressive receiving statistics, Simmons also found the end zone 20 times through the air, showing his ability to impact games as a scoring threat.

However, Simmons’ contributions were not limited to offense. The versatile athlete also made his presence felt on defense, recording 34 tackles and seven interceptions during the season. Two of those interceptions resulted in defensive touchdowns, further highlighting his rare ability to influence the game in multiple ways.

Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing around 195 pounds, Simmons brings a unique combination of strength, speed, and explosiveness. One of his biggest strengths is his ability to create separation and avoid defenders after making catches. His quickness, agility, and creativity with the ball in his hands make him a difficult matchup for opposing defenses.

Beyond his role as a wide receiver, Simmons has shown impressive versatility throughout his high school career. He has taken snaps at several positions, including quarterback and running back, while also contributing defensively. His willingness and ability to play multiple roles demonstrate his football intelligence and athletic ability.

Despite his outstanding production, Simmons remains somewhat underrated nationally. Current recruiting rankings list him as the No. 588 overall prospect in the country, the No. 39 athlete nationally, and the No. 24 player in the state of Alabama. His recent performances, however, suggest that his ranking could continue to rise as more programs evaluate his talent.

With his commitment, Simmons becomes Alabama’s 14th commitment in the 2027 recruiting class. He also becomes the second wide receiver to join the class, following four-star wide receiver Osani Gayles.

For Alabama, landing Simmons adds another dynamic athlete to a growing recruiting class. His versatility, playmaking ability, and experience competing at a high level in Alabama high school football make him an exciting addition to the future of the Crimson Tide program.

The recruiting battle between Alabama and Auburn continues to be one of the fiercest rivalries in college football, and Simmons’ decision adds another chapter to that competition. For now, Alabama fans are celebrating the arrival of a talented young receiver who could become a major contributor in the years ahead.
