Deal Confirmed: Saints reportedly have found their next head coach

Saints Expected to Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach

With six NFL head coaching vacancies now filled, the New Orleans Saints remain the only team still searching for a new leader. However, they appear to have zeroed in on their top candidate. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Saints have informed other interviewees that they are moving forward, with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore emerging as the frontrunner.

New Orleans cannot officially hire Moore until after the Super Bowl, as he is currently preparing the Eagles for their Feb. 9 championship rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite initial concerns about the Saints’ uncertain quarterback situation, Moore has reportedly received assurances that he will have both the time and organizational support needed to address the position.

The Saints’ coaching search included a range of candidates. Interim head coach Darren Rizzi was considered, along with former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn—who ultimately accepted the New York Jets’ head coaching job. Other interviewees included New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, former Stanford head coach David Shaw, and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

Meanwhile, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy withdrew from the process before it was completed. Kafka, Moore, and Weaver each had multiple interviews with the team, further solidifying them as top contenders.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Moore is expected to meet with the Saints’ leadership following Super Bowl LIX. If all goes as expected, the 36-year-old coach will take over in New Orleans, bringing his offensive expertise to a team looking to re-establish itself as a contender.
