GOOD NEWS: Top Highly Rated 5-Star QB James Watson Commits To Auburn Tigers Stating I Have Been Rooting For Auburn Since I Was Born

What Deuce Knight’s Signing Means for Auburn Football

Auburn football has secured a major victory on the recruiting trail with the official signing of five-star quarterback Deuce Knight, a significant addition to the 2025 recruiting class. Head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff can now relax a bit, knowing they’ve landed one of the most coveted prospects in the country.

Knight, who hails from George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi, becomes the highest-rated quarterback the Tigers have ever signed since recruiting rankings began being tracked online. According to 247Sports, Knight ranks as the No. 15 overall signee in Auburn’s program history.

Knight’s high school career has spanned two schools, as he spent time at both George County and Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Over those seasons, he has put together a strong body of work, throwing for a combined 3,976 yards and 28 touchdowns against just six interceptions. His passing efficiency is solid as well, completing 56.8% of his passes and averaging 8.6 yards per attempt. Knight’s athleticism also shines on the ground, as he’s added 982 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns during that time.

In the current 2024 high school football season, Knight has continued to impress. Per MaxPreps, through nine games, he’s thrown for 2,082 yards, completing 60.6% of his passes with 24 touchdowns and only five interceptions. On the ground, he’s added 450 rushing yards and scored nine more times with his legs. His dual-threat abilities make him a perfect fit for modern offensive schemes.

Knight’s commitment is a major step forward for Hugh Freeze’s efforts to rebuild and elevate Auburn’s quarterback room. This marks the second straight recruiting cycle in which Freeze has landed a top-tier quarterback recruit. Last year, Auburn signed former four-star prospect Walker White, and now Knight follows as the next elite signal-caller.

The timing of Knight’s arrival is also important, as Auburn’s quarterback depth is currently uncertain. Veteran starter Payton Thorne has concluded his college career, and backup Holden Geriner has announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. There were rumors that redshirt freshman Hank Brown was also planning to transfer, although he quickly denied those claims.

Even so, if Brown does end up entering the transfer portal when it officially opens, Auburn could be left with only two scholarship quarterbacks heading into 2025, both of whom will be freshmen. That would leave the Tigers with one of the youngest quarterback groups in the country. While Freeze is expected to pursue a seasoned quarterback from the transfer portal to bolster the depth chart, Knight’s signing ensures that the team has a highly talented foundation to build around for the future.

Knight brings not only talent but also leadership and competitiveness that Auburn will need as it navigates the challenging landscape of SEC football. His arrival signals Freeze’s ability to recruit at a high level and lays the groundwork for long-term success under center.

This signing is more than just a recruiting win—it’s a statement of intent. Auburn is positioning itself for future competitiveness in the SEC, and with Knight at the helm, the Tigers may finally have their quarterback of the future.
